Edward S. Skalski

Edward S. Skalski, 75, of Barrett House, 17 Pleasant St., formerly of 85 North Summer St., died yesterday afternoon at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield after a long illness. Born in Adams on Oct. 19, 1925, son of Simon S. and Julia Jedzjoca Skalski, he attended St. Stanislaus' School and the former Adams High School. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a gunner's mate on a tanker in the South Pacific. Mr. Skalski was employed by the former Dewey-Almay Corp., which became W.R. Grace, retiring in 1989 after 43 years of service. He was a communicant of Notre Dame-St. Thomas' Parish and a member of the Adams Hound & Hunt Club, where he served in many offices, the Maple Grove Civic Club and Adams Post 160 American Legion . His wife, the former Ruth M. Sirard, whom he married May 20, 1950, in Notre Dame Church, died Oct. 21, 1989. He leaves three sons, Gary E. Skalski of Pittsfield, David F. Skalski of Adams and Daniel E. Skalski of North Adams; two daughters, Barbara Skalski of Cheshire and Betty Skalski of Pittsfield; a sister, Mildred Milenski of Adams, and nine grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 11 from MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME in Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Notre Dame Church in Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. A visitation period for family and friends will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in his name to the Adams Ambulance Fund, 47 Park St., Adams, MA 01220, or through the funeral home, 2-8 Liberty St., 01220.
