Clarence R. Perry

Clarence Reeves Perry, 59, of 45 Versailles Ave. died Sunday at home after a long illness. He taught science at Drury High School for more than 20 years. Born in Adams on Dec. 24, 1941, son of Clarence and Rachel Olive Reeves Perry, he attended Adams schools and graduated from the former Adams High School in 1960. He also graduated in 1964 from the former North Adams State College with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry, and where he was a four-year dean's list student, and was elected to the Frank Fuller Murdock Honor Society. He also received his master of education degree from there in 1966 and an additional master's degree from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. Mr. Perry began his teaching career as a physics teacher at Drury in 1965, later serving as chairman of the science department and teaching mathematics and science. He resigned in 1986 and joined the faculty of the Hoosac School in Hoosick, N.Y., where he taught physics, chemistry, psychology and astronomy. He retired in 1999. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of the National Educators Association and Waubeeka Golf Links of Williamstown. He was a longtime bowler and received many awards for his 300 games in the Classic League at Ken's Bowl in Pittsfield and at Mount Greylock Bowl in North Adams. He also achieved several 700 and 800 series games in bowling. He also enjoyed sports, chess, reading and animals. He leaves his wife, the former Rosemarie Hartman, whom he married June 7, 1974, in St. Anthony's Church, and a daughter, Sarah Hartman Perry of Pittsfield and Cape Cod. Funeral services will be private at 2 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Burial will follow in the family plot in Maple Street Cemetery, Adams. There will be no calling hours. The omission of flowers is requested. Friends who wish may make donations in his memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Research Institute through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams, will officiate.
