JOSEPH T. FLANAGAN, JR.

Joseph Thomas Flanagan Jr., 66, of Swanton, Vt., a native of Pittsfield, died Saturday morning at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vt. He had served as chairman of the Swanton Democratic Party since 1994. Born April 25, 1934, son of Joseph T. Flanagan Sr. and Anna Moran Flanagan, he attended local schools. He had resided in Albany, N.Y., for 40 years and moved to Swanton in 1994. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Flanagan retired as a firefighter in the Albany Fire Department after 22 years of service. He was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton and a former communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Albany. He and his wife, the former Joann Robistow, would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary Feb. 28. Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, James Flanagan of Beacon, N.Y., Patrick Flanagan of East Greenbush, N.Y., Matthew Flanagan of Swanton and Joseph Flanagan III of Colonie, N.Y.; a daughter, Patricia Lewis of Dartmouth; two sisters, his twin, Joanne Jones of Pittsfield, and Jane Sakowski of South Carolina, and six grandchildren. James T. Flanagan Jr., 66, died Dec. 30, 2000. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Jean Flanagan; son-in-law, Barry Lewis; brother-in-law, George Jones, and close family friend, Ruth Allen. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be Thursday at 8:15 at the funeral home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Missisquoi Valley Rescue in care of the funeral home.
