Norman J. Estes, 78
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Norman Joseph Estes, 78, of 304 East Main St. North Adams died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at his home.
Born in North Adams on April 24, 1934, a son of Melvin and Mary Rose St. Cyr Estes, he graduated from Drury High School.
A decorated Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served as a radio operator on the USS Wisconsin.
Mr. Estes was employed for more than 30 years at the former Carol Cable in Williamstown and was president of the local union.
He was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member of the both the North Adams American Legion and VFW. He was an avid Boston Celtic fan and loved to travel.
He and his wife, the former Sandra Ciolkowski, were he married June 11, 1966.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Dawn Estes-Daub and her husband, Timothy, of Southfield and Christine Leavens and her husband, Thomas, of the state of Florida; a son, Michael Harris and his wife, Melissa, of North Adams; a sister, Carol Poirier of Canton, Conn., three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Graveside services for Mr. Estes will take place in the spring in the family plot in Southview Cemetery with full military honors.
