Shippee Leads Wahconah Past South Hadley

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Payton Shippee scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Wahconah football team to a 28-16 win over South Hadley on Saturday.
 
He started the game with a 70-yard run for a score on Wahconah's first play.
 
In the second quarter, quarterback Braedyn Melle hit Jacob Cooper for a short touchdown pass to give Wahconah a 14-0 lead.
 
The Tigers got on the board with a TD in the final minute of the first half and scored on a safety midway through the third to cut the deficit to 14-10.
 
Noah Poirier ran over right tackle and down the sideline for a 49-yard score to put his team on top, 20-10, but South Hadley answered with a long pass play to get back within six late in the third.
 
Shippee put the game away with a 10-yard run wiht 1 minute, 26 seconds left in the fourth. Poirier's 2-point conversion provided the final margin of victory.
 
Wahconah (1-0) goes back on the road on Friday to face Wilmington.
