Pittsfield High School and Taconic High School are pleased to announce the formation of a cooperative football program for the 2026 Fall Football Season, pending final approval from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.

This collaborative effort brings together student-athletes from both schools to create a unified football team that will enhance participation opportunities, ensure program sustainability, and maintain a competitive and safe football experience for students across the district.

The decision to pursue a football co-op reflects a shared commitment by Pittsfield Public Schools to prioritize student-athlete experience, program stability, and long-term growth of high school athletics. By combining resources and student participation, the co-op will provide increased roster depth, expanded opportunities for skill development, and a stronger overall program.

The co-op football team will compete under a shared identity, with details regarding team name, coaching staff, scheduling, and home game locations to be announced at a later date. Student-athletes from both Pittsfield High School and Taconic High School will remain enrolled in their respective schools while representing the combined program.

School administrators and athletic staff from both schools will work collaboratively throughout the spring and summer to ensure a smooth transition, clear communication with families, and a successful launch for the 2026 season.

Additional information regarding preseason meetings, registration, and program expectations will be shared with students and families in the coming months.

The head coaching position for the new team is posted here.

With the advent of the new cooperative, the county will have six high school football teams: McCann Tech, Hoosac Valley, Wahconah, Pittsfield/Taconic, Lee and Monument Mountain. All but McCann Tech and Wahconah are cooperatives pulling student-athletes from multiple schools.
