PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Armando Correas converted a penalty kick midway through the second half to break a 1-1 tie and send the Pittsfield boys soccer team on to a 4-1 win over South Hadley in the Western Massachusetts Class B Quarter-Finals.

After a scoreless first half, Quinn Schaller scored for the Generals with an assist from Kevin Campo in the 48th minute.

South Hadley tied the game three minutes later, but in the 60th minute, Correas put Pittsfield on top for good.

“We played some fluid soccer throughout the game, playing quick 1-2 touch passes,” Pittsfield coach Ryan Wanek said. “Defensively, we were solid at the back the entire game. The only goal conceded was a world class free kick, not much you can do about those other than tip your cap.

“The second half we were able to find our strikers in space and they were able to create a lot of opportunities for our team.”

Amos Ezan scored with an assist from Schaller, and Ryan Stannard set up Elvis Chairez in the final minute to complete the scoring.

Carlos Lagos earned the shutout win in goal for the Generals, who won their second straight game.

Fourth-seeded Pittsfield (7-7-2) advances to play No. 1 Pope Francis in the semi-finals.

The Cardinals beat Wahconah, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon to earn the right to host Wednesday’s Final Four game.
