Lenox Boys Advance on PKs in Western Mass Tournament
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Caleb Ketchen buried the clinching goal in a penalty kick shootout Tuesday as the Lenox boys soccer team advanced past Springfield International Charter in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class C Tournament.
After a scoreless 80 minutes and two 10-minute overtimes, the two teams went to PKs to decide who would advance to the regional semi-finals.
Addison Hall, Duke Jaehnig, Dylan Blake and Renzo Merino each converted ahead of Ketchen, who was able to put the game away due to a miss by the Bulldogs in the best-of-five shootout.
“I honestly could not be more proud of this team given the adversity that we faced this season in our win loss record, but in tournament time the intense battles that we had with some very strong teams have finally started to pay off,” Lenox coach Jedd Hall said. “Our back line was solid the entire night and our midfield controlled the ball and we dominated possession for most of the game but the Springfield international charter team has an All-State selection goalkeeper who is absolutely amazing and stopped numerous shots and really put in a lifetime performance.
“But at the end, our grit and resolve and our determination paid off by picking up a crucial win in our quarterfinals against Springfield International.”
Lenox (4-10-3) will head to Turners Falls on Friday to face Franklin Tech in the regional final four.
