Lee Pulls Away from Taconic in Second Half
LEE, Mass. – Payton Simmons scored a pair of goals Tuesday to lead the Lee girls soccer team to a 5-2 win over Taconic.
Simmons scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Giana Carlino and the first goal of the second half on a penalty kick to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
Taconic cut into that deficit with the first of two goals from Victoria Spagnuolo midway through the half.
But Lee’s Jenna Simone scored with an assist from Kenzie Garrity (one goal, one assist), and Leanna Drscoll set up Lily Hassmer, who gave the Wildcats a 5-1 lead.
Maddy Kotek made four saves to earn the win in goal.
Taconic got 15 saves from Estrella Canales.
The Thunder (1-1) hosts Gateway on Friday.
Lee (3-1) is at Mount Everett on Friday.
