Lopez Leads Mount Greylock in Season Opening Win
BENNINGTON, Vt. – Nora Lopez scored a pair of goals Thursday to lead the Mount Greylock girls soccer team to a 2-1 win over Brattleboro in the first round of the Mount Anthony Tournament.
Lopez scored the first goal in the fourth minute with an assist from Tenley Drake.
Mounties coach Blair Dils said that Lopez' speed and skill up front forced the Colonels to change their defensive formation midway through the first half.
Lopez adjusted and scored early in the second half with another assist from Drake to give Mount Greylock a 2-0 lead.
“Naima Harris (11 saves) for Brattleboro was excellent in goal and prevented the game from becoming a rout,” Dils said. “Our defensive line led by Maddie Powell and Rowan Apotsos were very good all night.”
Addie Cooper stopped five shots in Mount Greylock’s goal.
The Mounties will play in the tournament final on Saturday night against the host Patriots, a 3-2 winner over Burr and Burton on Thursday.
