Taconic Tops Spartans in Four Sets

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Gracelyn Cormier recorded a season-best 12 kills Friday to lead the Taconic volleyball team to a four-set win over Monument Mountain.

 

Cormier also pulled up six digs and served a couple of aces in the 25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 25-9 win.

 

“Tonight's win was really important to us as we improved to a 4-3 record and hope to put together a bit of a winning streak this coming week,” Taconic coach Lance Fyfe said. “Gracie Cormier had an excellent night on the net putting down some really powerful hits keeping us pumped up throughout the night.”

 

Isla DiMassimo and Molly Crawford recorded eight and four aces, respectively. The pair also anchored the Thunder’s defense with 20 digs between them.

 

Kiara Burston directed the offense with 16 assists. Frances Macioge set up nine points.

 

For the Spartans, Novella Taliericio had a big night on the stat sheet with nine kills, eight digs and five aces. Anjani Taliercio recorded nine digs and six kills, and Ava Hall pulled up 11 digs.

 

“Monument played some of their best volleyball of the season in the loss to Taconic,” Spartans coach Kyle Henry said. “This team, made up of lots of young talent, stayed with Taconic most of the night. In the fourth set they dug deep and took the set with five freshmen on the floor.”

 

Monument Mountain (6-1) goes to Lee on Monday.

 

Taconic is at Southwick on Monday.
