Rain, Rain, Go Away

A spring high school sports season delayed by snow had more seasonal weather to contend with as it came down to the wire on Tuesday.

Torrential rain and lightning in the Berkshires forced the suspension or postponement of several sectional tournament events.

Three teams from Mount Greylock Regional School will try again on Wednesday.

The Mounties boys lacrosse team did not even take the field against Cathedral in their Central/Western Mass semi-final game.

Mount Greylock Athletic Director Lindsey Von Holtz reported the game has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 5 p.m.

As an aside, also as of 7:30, there still was thunder and lightning over Williamstown, so officials definitely made the right call.

Mount Greylock's boys tennis Western Mass semifinal against South Hadley got under way a half hour late because of a late-arriving bus for the visitors. But it did not much matter; no matches had time to finish before the rains came.

Mount Greylock coach Steve Bryant said they will try again Wednesday at 4.

The Mount Greylock girls traveled to Great Barrington for their Western Mass semi-final, and they'll go back down Route 7 on Wednesday to finish things up against Monument Mountain.

Greylock coach John Jaccobe said only two to three games were played in each match. They will resume them all on Wednesday.

The winner will take on Lee (13-5), which knocked off Palmer on Tuesday in a match that was completed. The Wildcats advanced to the Western Mass championship match as the No. 8 seed.
