Mount Greylock Girls Win State Crown

WRENTHAM, Mass. — Katherine Swann placed third in the state as an individual in leading the Mount Greylock girls cross country team to a Division 3 State Championship on Saturday.
 
Swann crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 32.5 seconds to lead a pack of five Mounties in the top 50 of the 175-runner field at the Wrentham Developmental Center.
 
Mount Greylock's girls finished with a three-point victory over runner-up Weston (96-100) in a team competition that came down the final finisher for each squad.
 
Lenox's girls placed fourth in the state, and the Lenox boys placed second, runner up by 23 points to Parker Charter Essential.
 
Dennis Love led the Millionaires in the boys D3 race, clocking a time of 16:32.7 to place 13th in the state.
 
Wahconah's and Mount Greylock's boys placed 15th and 16th, respectively, in Division 3. The two squads finished with the same point total, but Wahconah's sixth finisher, Cadighan Gladu (18:38.0) made the difference.
 
Lee's girls finished 15th in a 22-team Division 3 field behind Emily Holian, who placed 65th overall in 21:14.4. Monument Mountain's girls finished in 20th place.
 
Running as individual qualifiers, Hoosac Valley's Justin Levesque (17:28.8) placed 50th, Monument Mountain's Colby Sweet (17:39.7) was 60th and Lee's Josh Perrier (18:05.7) was 94th in Division 3. In the Division 2 race, Pittsfield's Jack Archey was 113th in 17:43.6.
 
In the D3 girls race, Littleton's S hae Regan won the individual state title with a time of 17:47.4, beating the field by nearly half a minute.
 
Regan was followed by Norfolk Aggie's Madelyn Germain, who was running as an individual and placed second in 18:16.3.
 
Swann then outkicked Oakmont's Fiona Picone (18:36.2) to take third place (second place for team scoring purposes) by just four seconds.
 
The Mounties then earned points from Grace Malone (15th/13th), Ainsley Abel (29th/22nd), Josie Smith (34th/25th) and Vera de Jong (49th/35th).
 
Lenox's girls were led by the one-two punch of Grace Elliot and Alice Culver, who placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the state.
 
Madeleine Rocheleau Holmes (20:19.5) led Monument Mountain with a 30th-place finish.
 
Joining Love in the scoring column for the Lenox boys were Maxwell Adam (16th/14th), Renzo Vargas (33rd/27th), Harry Touloukian (45th, 38th) and Cormac Mathews (47th/39th).
 
Mount Greylock's boys were led by Ezra Holzapfel, who placed 36th with a time of 17:15.8.
