Wahconah's Lighten Second in 200 at All-State Meet

FITCHBURG, Mass. -- Wahconah senior Matt Lighten finished second in the 200 meters at Saturday's All-State Track and Field Championships.
 
Lighten crossed the line in 21.53 seconds, one-hundredth of a second behind Shrewsbury's Joseph O'Brien.
 
In the girls meet, Mount Greylock's Madison Ross placed fourth in the long jump with a Berkshire County-record mark of 17 feet, 9 inches.
 
Ross also competed in the 100, finishing 21st in the prelims with a time of 12.74.
 
In the girls 4-by-800 relay, Mount Greylock's quartet of Maddie Albert, Lilly Wells, Jackie Wells and Hazel Scullin placed ninth with a time of 9:34.43.
 
The Lenox quartet of Ellen Huth, Alice Najimy, Grace Elliot and Magdalena Sorrentino was 24th in 10:00.46.
 
In the mile relay, Monument Mountain placed 16th. Elise Dilisio, Aubrey Blanchard, Meri Powell and Jasmin Johannsdottier teamed up to run a time of 4:08.50.
 
Wahconah's Victoria Gamberoni placed 16th in the 2-mile run, clocking a time of 11:48.39. Her teammate, Jessica Anderson, was 24th in the long jump with a best jump of 15-10.5.
 
Drury's Laura Thomas finished 19th in the javelin with a throw of 100-09.
 
Lenox eighth-grader Mary Elliot was 21st in the 400 (1:00.94).
 
In the boys meet, Pittsfield freshman Emmanuel Nda was 17th in the prelims in the 100 meters with a time of 11.40. He was the only freshman competing in the 24-athlete field in the event.
 
Nda also ran the opening leg of the Generals' 4-by-100 relay, which placed 15th out of 27 teams in the commonwealth. Nda, David Kankam, Kevin Amenlemah and Emmanuel Ameniama finished in 44.08.
 
Taconic's Josh Tayi finished tied for 20th in the high jump after clearing 6-2.
 
Hoosac Valley's Dominic Acquista was 25th in the shot put (42-10.25).
 
Mount Greylock's Owen Brandriss was 24th in the 800 (2:01.35).
