Seid, Cheung Lead Mount Greylock Boys to Victory in New York

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Jesse Seid and Josh Cheung placed fourth and sixth, respectively, Saturday to lead the Mount Greylock boys cross country team to a first-place finish at the Burnt Hills Cross Country Invitational at Saratoga Spa State Park.
 
The Mounties finished on top of the Division 1 varsity race, besting 17 teams, mostly from New York's Section 2.
 
Seid covered the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 18.04 seconds, about a half minute behind individual champion Brandon Olden of North Warren (15:48.81).
 
Cheung finished in 16:31.78.
 
Jacob Fink (17:22.89) was 11th, and Jakin Miller (17:34.08) and Theo Sandstrom (17:44.48) each finished in the top 20 as the Mounties finished with 45 points, easily outpointing runner-up Lake Placid (70 points).
 
The Mounties also won the Modified Boys A Division, where seventh-graders Oliver Swabey and Quinn McDermott placed first and second, respectively, in 10:42.93 and 11:12.32 in the 3K race.
 
Fifth-place Caleb Low, eighth-place Chase Doyle and 10th-place Declan Rogers rounded out the scoring for Mount Greylock, which finished with 26 points to beat out runner-up Saratoga Springs (91 points).
 
In the Modified Boys B Division, Mount Greylock placed second, 30 points behind champion Queensbury. Eighth-grader Noah Shin led the way, placing fourth in 12:40.86.
 
The Mount Greylock girls ran four athletes with no team score in the Division 1 Varsity race.
 
Running as individuals, freshman Kate Swann (19:33.66) and junior Miriam Bakija (20:40.31) finished fifth and 13th in the 5K.
 
The winner was Elaine Atanasova of Duanesburg in 18:23.79.
 
Mount Greylock's girls won the Modified 3K race with 24 points, well ahead of runner-up Scotia-Glenville (88 points).
 
Five Mount Greylock middle schoolers placed in the top seven, led by runner-up Ainsley Abel. Her time of 12:17.21 was bettered only by Stephanie James of Scotia-Glenville (12:03.49).
 
Erin Keating, Lily McDermott, Juliet Kornell and Sarah Polumbo placed fourth through seventh, respectively.
