Ross Wins Long Jump at Niskayuna, N.Y., Invitational

NISKAYAUNA, N.Y. -- Mount Greylock junior Madison Ross won the long jump Saturday to lead the Mounties to a seventh-place finish at the Niskayuna Invitational.
 
Ross went 17 feet, 4 inches -- 2.25 inches further than runner-up Kristina Koes of the host Silver Warriors.
 
Ross also placed fifth in a pair of events, the 100-meter dash and the triple jump.
 
In the 100, she crossed the line in 12.75 seconds. New Rochelle’s Rammona Genus won in a meet record time of 12.24.
 
In the triple jump, Ross’ mark was 35-3.5. Shenendehowa’s Michaela Schaffer won in 35-10.5. Taconic’s Alliyah Bolling was eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 32-8.
 
The Mounties’ Ross also ran a leg on the team’s third-place 4-by-100 relay quartet. Takeira Darrow, Elizabeth Dupras, Ross and Maddie Albert teamed to finish in 52.23. The winner was Niskayuna in a meet-record 49.52.
 
Mount Greylock finished with 23 points. The team championship went to Shen with 114 points.
 
The Mounties placed two in the top eight in the 800 meters. Jacqueline Wells (2:25.13) was sixth, and Hazel Scullin (2:32.54) was eighth.
 
Taconic’s Lily Lobovits finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 99-6 and eighth in the shot put (31-0).
 
In the boys meet, Taconic’s Josh Tayi and Mohammed Ahmed each turned in second-place finishes.
 
Tayi was the runner-up in the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 10 inches, Mohonesen’s Elijah Harris won with a mark of 6-4. Ahmed (5-8) was eighth in the high jump.
 
Ahmed was second in the triple jump after going 44-1; Tayi was fourth in that event with a mark of 43-5.5. Wahconah’s Jack Pudlo (40-6) was 10th in the triple jump.
 
Pittsfield’s boys got a third-place finish from Emmanuel Nda in the 100. He crossed the finish line in 11.16. The winner was Colonie’s Michael Hermance in a meet-record 10.82.
 
Other local highlights at the regional meet included: the Wahconah 4-by-800 relay (Jocelyn Sommers, Arianna Kendall, Taylor Vidoli, Ellie Clark), seventh in 12:51.97; Wahconah’s Hailey Pickard fifth in the high jump (4-10); Pittsfield’s David Kankam seventh in the 400 (53.80); Mount Greylock’s Josh Cheung seventh in the 1500 (4:20.23); Wahconah’s Tyler Olds sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:02.67); Pittsfield’s 4-by-100 relay seventh in 46.39; Mount Greylock’s 4-by-800 relay (Brandon Fahlenkamp, Josh Cheung, Jesse Seid and Charlie McWeeny) eighth in 9:14.69; Wahconah’s Shea Mcilquham 10th in the long jump (19-07); and Mount Greylock’s Brendan Goss 10th in the shot put (38-1.25).
