Greylock's Colon, Everett's Lupiani Second at State Wrestling Meet

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Johnny Colon and Travis Hilchey finished second and third, respectively, to lead the Mount Greylock Regional School wrestling team to an 11th-place finish at the Massachusetts Division 3 Championships on Saturday.
 
Colon beat Norton's Elliott Johnson, 15-8, in their semi-final match on Saturday morning in the 182-pound weight class.
 
In the finals, Triton's Mark Boyle pinned Colon in the first period.
 
At 132, Hilchey dropped his semi-final, 4-2 on Saturday morning but rebounded with two pins in the consolation bracket. First, he stopped Foxborough's Austin Guttierrez in the first period. Then, in the third-place match, Colon pinned Triton's Jake Durkin midway through the second period of a scoreless match.
 
The Mounties -- a cooperative team that welcomes wrestlers from Drury, McCann and Hoosac Valley -- finished with 56.5 points, best among Berkshire County schools at the state meet. the team title was won by Norton, which maintained a commanding Day 1 lead and finished with 138.5 points to eclipse second-place Canton (88.5 points).
 
Monument Mountain ended up 26th out of 57 teams competing at the meet, thanks largely to Jonah Christianson's run to the consolation finals at 182. Christianson pinned his opponent in the consolation semis before falling to defeating Granby's Nolan Hodgins, 7-3, in the third-place match.
 
Berkshire County had one other individual second-place finisher.
 
At 126, Mount Everett's Bradley Lupiani won a 6-4 decision in the semi-finals but lost, 4-0, to Lynnfield North Reading's Eric Kerr in the state championship match.
 
Taconic's Dave Jones finished sixth in the state at 220 pounds after a busy two days in which he had to wrestle six matches.
