County Cross Country Season Gets Underway

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Host Monument Mountain had the top two individuals by wide margins, and Lenox and Mount Greylock dominated the team competition at the inaugural all-county cross country meet on Wednesday afternoon.

 

Reigning Division 3 State Champion Everett Pacheco covered the 3-mile course in 15 minutes, 32 seconds, to finish 59 seconds ahead of the field in the boys race.

 

Amelia Desilets dominated the girls race, finishing in 19:21, 1:18 ahead of the runner-up.

 

All eight of the Berkshire County League teams were in action, and each squad was scored in multiple dual meets.

 

Lenox’s and Mount Greylock’s boys each went 3-0 against their respective opponents.

 

The Mounties and Millionaires also dominated the top 10 after Desilets crossed the finish line.

 

Nellie Swabey was the first of three Mount Greylock harriers to finish second, third and fourth.

 

After Elyssa Scrimo in fifth led three straight Lenox runners to the finish, the Mounties took eighth and 10th place.

 

The only other runner not from Lenox or Monument Mountain in the top 10 was the Spartans’ Anna Desilets, who placed ninth.

 

The boys’ race saw more variety in the front of the pack with five different schools represented in the first five places, six different schools in the top 10 and an 11th-place showing from Mount Everett’s fastest runner, Ben Vella.

 

Lenox’s Ben Harwood chased Pacheco to finish second. Pittsfield’s Cohen Zahn was just six seconds behind Harwood in sixth place.

 

Wahconah’s Noah Wesley was fourth, and Mount Greylock’s Finnegan Voisin finished fifth. Taconic’s Colin Norton cracked the top 10 with an eighth-place showing.
