WESTFIELD, Mass. – Pittsfield’s Owen Klatka and Taconic’s Elijah Harewood each posted a second place finish on the second and final day of the Division 5 State Championships at Westfield State University.

Klatka jumped as high as anyone in the meet but settled for second in the high jump.

The PHS senior and Stoneham’s Weston Bunnell were the only jumpers left at 6 feet, 4 inches, and each cleared it on his first try. But Bunnell had one fewer miss at 6-2, allowing him to claim the title.

Harewood broke 11 seconds for the second time this season in the 100 meters, but his time of 10.95 seconds was just a hair behind the 10.72 posted by Weston’s Noah Lago.

Lago led Weston to a boys team title. The squad collected 100.5 points to easily beat runner-up Old Rochester Regional (60 points).

Pittsfield’s and Taconic’s boys placed 20th and 23rd, respectively.

North Reading won the girls meet with 99 points, 38 ahead of runner-up Dennis-Yarmouth.

Pittsfield’s girls tied for 26th place. Taconic’s girls did not figure into the team standings.

Dezera Powell piled up points for the Generals on Saturday, leaping to a seventh-place finish in the long jump (16 feet, 2.25 inches) and placing seventh in the 100 meters (13.03).

Also medaling for Pittsfield on Saturday were Elias Robinson in the long jump (21-11) and the boys 4-by-400 relay quartet of Emanuel Anwomeah, Aidan D'Aniello, Amos Ezan and Klatka, who placed fifth with a time of 3:32.11.

Taconic’s boys Saturday got an eighth-place finish from Martin Boua, who cleared 5-10.
