NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The McCann Tech baseball team is running out of time.

Needing to win four of its last six games to make the Western Mass. tournament, the Hornets dropped an important at home to Franklin Tech on Saturday. A four-run fourth was all the Eagles would need, as they swept the season series with a 7-3 win on the road.

McCann (6-8) fell behind 1-0 after the top of the first inning, but Pat Ryan's club rallied back by scoring two runs in the home half of the frame. The Hornets held that advantage until Franklin broke out for four runs in the fourth, chasing McCann starter Kyle Crosier out of the game.

The junior hurler pitched three and one-third innings, giving up four runs while striking out three to take the loss. Seniors Zach Tatro and Michael Chappell also pitched in relief. Tatro gave up two runs, while Chappell surrendered one.

The Hornets could only manage five hits off Eagles' starter Justin McCloud, who pitched a complete game and struck out two. Tatro led his team's offense, going 2 for 3, while Chappell went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.

“It's crunch time, McCann head coach Pat Ryan said. "We need to play like we are capable for the remainder of the season. We can do it."

With not much room for error, McCann will next host Gateway at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
