PITTSFIELD , Mass. — Jason Codey threw a complete game shutout on Sunday as the Pittsfield baseball team beat Monument Mountain, 4-0, to move on to the Western Massachusetts Finals against Taconic.

Cameron Hillard and Christian Barry did the job offensively for Pittsfield.

Barry, who had his varsity debut, recorded a hit and an RBI for his team.

Codey allowed only four hits during his outing.

But the shutout was at risk late in the game.

In the top of the fourth, Dom Calautti hit a line drive to Matthew Burega in left with a runner on second. Burega made the catch and threw to Barry at second base to double off the runner.

That was Monument Mountain's best threat to break up the shutout.

“I felt real good on the mound today," Codey said.

“I may have been far from 100 percent, but we got the job done collectively and that was all that mattered.”

The Generals gave Codey all the offensive support he needed with a run in the bottom of the third.

Jack Abel led off the inning with a walk and went to third on Morrie Fried’s groundout to the left side.

Jack Reed then singled to center field to drive in Abel.

One inning later, Pittsfield tacked on three runs.

Hillard got things started with a one-out infield single.

He later moved up on a passed ball and scored on Barry’s single.

Abel singled to left and took second on the throw home that was not in time to catch Barry, making it 3-0. Fried then singled to right to drive in Abel with the game’s final run.

Abel went 2-for-3, and Hillard was 2-for-2 to lead Pittsfield’s offense.

Pittsfield had spoken about their pitching rotation being different than the other Berkshire teams this year.

“Well, we have a couple good arms to use, so we rest Codey for anywhere from one to three games at times," Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce said.

“As for the state tournament beginning on Saturday of next week, Codey should be ready to take the bump again.”

This win for Pittsfield (16-4) marked its second  second straight Western Mass win over Monument Mountain.

Now, the Generals are off the face Taconic High School in the Western Massachusetts Finals on Tuesday at 4:30 at historic Wahconah Park.

Monument Mountain (13-7), meanwhile, turns its attention to the Division 4 State Tournament.
