Hoosac Valley Celebrates Milestones in Win over Millionaires

CHESHIRE, Mass. – It was a milestone day for two Hoosac Valley individuals and a big day for the Hurricanes as a team on Wednesday afternoon.
Jayden Tatro recorded his 100th career point on offense, and Max Griffin made his 500th career save in the Hurricanes goal as Hoosac Valley beat Lenox, 11-7, for its third straight win.
“It was a really big win for us,” Tatro said. “We really wanted this. We’ve been working really hard in practice. Coach pushed us a lot in practice. So, yeah, this was a big one.”
Tatro came into the game sitting on 97 career points and reached the milestone with two goals and an assist.
He joined the 100-point club when he scored on a man-up opportunity with an assist from Kamarion Kastner to make it 8-4 midway through the third quarter.
Cam Odvar led Hoosac Valley’s offense with five goals and two assists. Adan Wicks had a hat trick and set up three more goals.
Griffin, who came into the game needing five saves to reach 500 in a Hoosac Valley uniform, finished with 10 stops.
After posing for pictures with Tatro and all their teammates, Griffin talked about how some of those teammates helped put him at the 500-save plateau.
“You notice 500, but what doesn’t get written down is Jacob Borawski ate, probably, four shots for me today,” Griffin said. “So as much as I’m making the save, my defense is showing me the shots I want to see.
“There’s a lot of guys who sell out for me, which is really nice, that eat a shot. … In the beginning of the season, we didn’t have that chemistry, but now we do. Now, they know what I can save, what I can’t, and they try to give me what I want, which is awesome.”
Hoosac Valley stormed out to an early 5-0 lead when Jackson Larabee converted an assist from Kastner midway through the second quarter.
But Lenox scored twice before the end of the half to get back in the game, and it drew to within two goals midway through the third on one of William Mairo’s two goals to make it 6-4.
Odvar answered less than a minute later, and Tatro’s milestone goal pushed the lead back to four.
The Millionaires scored twice to get within 8-6, but Odvar scored in the final minute of the third quarter and the second minute of the fourth quarter to re-establish a four-goal cushion.
“We just locked it in,” Tatro said of Hoosac Valley’s play after Lenox made its run. “We stayed focused. We dialed it in, and then we got the win.”
Jeffrey Larmon made nine saves for Lenox (6-3), which hosts Pittsfield on Monday.
Hoosac Valley (5-3) is at Wahconah on Friday.
