BELCHERTOWN, Mass. – Ava Massaro scored her fifth goal of the game in overtime Thursday to give the Wahconah girls lacrosse team a 13-12 win over Belchertown.

Wahconah came back after trailing, 10-4, at half-time to outscore the Orioles, 8-2, in the second half.

“The girls were struggling with our defense and we built a hole of six goals,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. “We made some adjustments and fought back one by one. A lot of resilience and grit in the second part of the second half. We tied it up and it went into overtime.

“To start overtime, they won the draw, and we forced a turnover and Ava Massaro took it from there and solidified the win.”

Phalyn Renderer stopped 12 shots to earn the win in goal.

Olivia Roberts had a hat trick, and Mia Thomas scored twice in the win.

Wahconah (2-2) hosts Mount Greylock on Tuesday.
