HUNTINGTON, Mass. -- After winning four out its last five games, the McCann Tech softball team took a step back on Thursday, making three errors and giving up seven walks on its way to a 13-0 loss at Gateway.

The Gators hit the ball well and exploded for 11 runs in the third inning alone to seal the mercy-rule win in just five innings. Hornets' starter Erika Ziemba lasted just three innings, allowing six earned runs and four walks to take the loss.

"It was another one of those games where we decided not to get off the bus," McCann head coach Robin Finnegan said. "The Gateway pitcher kept our bats quiet, only giving up two hits, while our defense committed three errors. Gateway also hit the ball very well."

Gators' starter Brooke Fairman struck out four batters on her way to picking up her second complete-game victory against the Hornets (5-14) this year. McCann closes out it season with a road game against Ware at 4 p.m. on Friday.
