Mount Everett Tops Gateway in Regular Season Finale

HUNTINGTON, Mass. – Julia Devoti struck out eight and walked one Wednesday to lead the Mount Everett softball team to a 4-1 win over Gateway Regional.
 
Emily Steuernagle went 2-for-3 at the plate, and Megan Loring was 2-for-4 with an RBI in an eight-hit attack for the Eagles.
 
Allison Steuernagle drove in Devoti with a ground ball to get Mount Everett on the board, and Loring singled to left to drive in Emily Steuernagle to make it 2-0.
 
"The girls did a tremendous job today of staying focused and beating the heat they played in," Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. "We didn't have a great hitting session yesterday so to see us play the way we did was great.
 
"We got a bunch of runners on base early but couldn't find a way to score. Gateway was having the same issue but our defense really played well and made the plays when we had to limiting any type of damage until the last inning."
 
Mount Everett (7-9) waits to hear who it will face in the first round of the Western Massachusetts Division 5 Tournament.
