MONSON, Mass. – Elena Iovieno drove in three runs and was one of four Wahconah players with two hits apiece as her team opened the season with a 12-5 win over Monson on Friday.
Ioevieno also scored three times in the win.
Dani Barry crossed the plate three times and had a pair of hits. Katelyn McCormack notched two hits in the opener.
Taylar Hickey struck out 12 and allowed just two runs in seven innings of work in the circle.
Hickey helped her cause with a pair of hits, including a double.
“We have been outside for one practice, so to come away with a win was great,” Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. “I thought we hit the ball very well, and Taylar Hickey did a great job in the circle for us today.”
Wahconah (1-0) is off until next Friday when it goes to Pittsfield.
