One of this week's Athletes of the Week worked a little overtime, while the other was forced to wait out the winter weather but made the most of her one chance on the court.

Izaha Stubbs came up big in a pair of narrow wins for the Hoosac Valley boys basketball team, helping Hoosac hand Monument Mountain its only loss of the season on Thursday night before putting up big numbers in OT as the 'Canes beat Mount Greylock two days later.

Against the Spartans, Stubbs hit five-pointers on his way to a game-high 23 points.

On Saturday, he had 15 points, including seven in overtime as the Hurricanes earned a 72-66 win over the Mounties.

This season, the Hurricanes' sophomore is averaging 14 points per game for Hoosac Valley (7-2), which takes a three-game winning streak into Monday's home game against Wahconah.

Thousand-point scorer Gwendolyn Carpenter has been a lighting up scoreboards througout Western Massachusetts for four years, and this year she is averaging 19 points per game, including 29 in the Mount Everett girls' only action this week, a 58-46 Martin Luther King Day win over Pioneer.

But Carpenter is doing more than scoring for the Eagles, who have come through a tough early schedule with a 4-4 record that includes losses to Hoosac Valley and Pittsfield.

"What you're seeing with Gwen is her point total is down this year because she's involving the rest of the team," Mount Everett coach Scott Rote said. "She sees the floor on our fast break better than the kids who are running it see it, and they're not always ready.

"Gwen has really picked up the assists this year. She's really trying to distribute it more. And that's what's been good for us this year. We've had [Madison] Ullrich, [Marion] Devoti, Gwendolyn and [Tori] Seward all averaging pretty much 10 points per game."
