GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Dion Brown scored 30 points Tuesday to lead the Monument Mountain boys basketball team to a 66-51 win over Hoosac Valley.

Brown scored seven in the fourth quarter to help the Spartans pull away after leading by eight through three.

“Another tough loss to the Spartans,” Hoosac Valley coach Dave Harte said. “We got down early but then played Hoosac basketball, sharing the ball and running our sets to get back in it and take the lead 44-43. But eventually we ran out of gas.

“Dion Brown is a top player in this league, and we let him get going early. We tried to play some zone to stay out of foul trouble and keep them out of the paint, but Brown and [Noel] Powell forced us out of it.”

Powell scored 16, and Ty Higgins added 10 for the Spartans.

Hoosac Valley was led by Izaha Stubbs with 23 and Casey Meczywor with 13.

The Hurricanes (5-3) go to Pittsfield on Monday.

Monument Mountain (8-1) hosts Lenox on Thursday.
