CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Dakari Weston scored 25 points Sunday to lead the Cardinal Spellman boys basketball team to a 75-67 win over Hoosac Valley.

The visitors from Brockton took control of the game with a 22-7 third quarter after going to the locker room with a 34-31 lead.

"We played a solid first half," Hoosac Valley coach Dave Harte said. "We dug a hole for ourselves in the first four minutes of second half.

"Their size was a factor on the offensive glass as they got way too many second chance opportunities allowing them to get to the free throw line."

Spellman went 10-for-30 at the foul line.

Izaha Stubbs was 6-for-7 at the stripe on the way to a team-high 16. Casey Meczywor scored 12, and Cole Desroches added nine on three 3-pointers.

"We also need to be better in transition on both sides of the ball," Harte said. "They had very solid guard play, and we still fight the tendency to just chase our man around instead of playing angles and sticking to man-to-man principles."

Hoosac Valley (5-8) goes to Taconic on Thursday.
