Drury Gets Narrow Win in Showdown at Wahconah
DALTON, Mass. – Jorge Bond scored 30 points, and the Drury boys basketball team held off Wahconah’s comeback bid in the fourth quarter to take a 65-63 win in a battle for first place in the Berkshire County League.
Bond made four of his team’s six 3-pointers, and Drury won its fourth straight, completing a season sweep of Wahconah.
Shane Faucher scored 13 points, and Brayden Durant and Connor Hinkell each added eight in the win.
Drury led by seven at half-time and stretched that lead to nine through three quarters before Wahconah rallied.
“Proud of the way my guys battled to get a shot at the end,” Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. “We had a good look to have a chance to win at the end.”
Jake Wasuk scored 19 points to lead three Wahconah players in double figures.
Sam McLaughlin scored 16 and Jack DuCharme added 12.
Wahconah and Drury came into the game in a three-way tie for first-place in the league with Pittsfield.
The Generals (6-2 league), who were idle on Friday, finish league play at Hoosac Valley and against Taconic at the Boys and Girls Club next week.
Drury (7-2) finishes its league schedule at Hoosac Valley next Friday. Wahconah (6-3) is at Monument Mountain on Friday.
Wahconah (11-4 overall) has an independent game on Monday at home against Greenfield. Drury (12-2) has two non-league tuneups before the rivalry game with the Hurricanes: Monday home against Northampton and Tuesday at Lenox.
