DALTON, Mass. -- The Lenox boys’ basketball team was coming off of a big win against Pittsfield on Monday night; coach Scott Sibley thought that would be enough to boost the team's intensity for Thursday’s match against Wahconah.

But Wahcona took over the lead at half and held it from there for a 51-41 win.

“I feel like we never got off the bus tonight, we walked through things, there was no intensity and we were sluggish,” Sibley said. “I thought maybe by beating Pittsfield they would have thought that they’re a pretty good team; I don’t know what went wrong.”

Although Wahconah took the win by 10 points; Lenox was in it the whole game. At half the Millionaires trailed, 25-22.

In the third quarter, Lenox came out and took the lead with two back to back 3-pointers from Patrick Colvin and Ben Herrick to put the score at 28-25, but Wahconah quickly tied it up and went on an 8-0 run from there and they end the quarter at 38-32.

“In the first half we did a good job getting the ball inside to [Cole] Morrison and he was able to draw a couple guys and pass out,” Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. “So we look to just reinforce that at half-time as well as keeping up with our defensive pressure.

“I thought we did a good job tonight, they’re a great club. To hold them down to 41 points, I’m pretty proud of our defensive effort.”

Lenox had a chance at a comeback in the fourth; with less than five minutes to go, the visitors cut the lead to only one point, but in the final minutes they found themselves in foul trouble, sending Wahconah to the line where Kevin Boino hit five free-throws to seal the win.

Boino finished the game with 12 points for Wahconah, Marco Anastasio had 13, and Collin Parrott also had 12. For Lenox; Evan Lanoe has 12, Bailey Patella had nine, and both Herrick and Colvin finished with eight.

Lenox travels to Taconic Monday evening and Wahconah hosts Frontier Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
