Lenox Comeback Falls Short on Road
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Tyheem Goodman scored 21 points Wednesday to lead the Libertas Charter boys basketball team to a 61-57 win over Lenox.
Duke Jaehnig scored 17 to lead four Millionaires in double figures on a night when Lenox rallied from a 20-point half-time deficit but could not get over the hump.
“Despite the score, the effort and shot quality were there—we just couldn’t buy a basket,” Lenox coach Len Miller said of the first half, which ended with Libertas up, 37-17. “We finished the half shooting 1-for-11 from three and 5-for-21 on two-point attempts. At halftime, the message to our players was simple: keep playing hard and trust the process.
“Adjustments were made, going with a faster lineup and stronger outside shooting, and the response was outstanding. Lenox outscored Libertas 40–24 in the second half, dominating the fourth quarter 20–10. Our aggressive defense, relentless attacks to the hoop, and control of both offensive and defensive boards completely flipped the momentum.”
Nico Leslie scored 13 points, and Dylan Blake and Jason Sibley added 10 apiece in the loss.
“Even in defeat, this was the kind of game that makes a coach proud,” Miller said. “So many players stepped up and contributed. Point guard Seamus Cooney did a great job running our offenses and guarding Libertas best scorers. Freshmen Dylan Blake and Nico Leslie combined for 23 points and 14 rebounds, showing poise well beyond their years. Duke [Jaehnig] led the team with 15 points and 11 rebounds, making his biggest impact in the second half. Senior captain Jason Sibley added 10 points and grabbed six key rebounds.”
Lenox (3-8) goes to Veritas Prep on Friday.
