PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Peyton Steinman's 28 points helped lead the Pittsfield girls basketball team past Wahconah Thursday evening, 57-29, on senior night at Pittsfield High School.

The Generals, who held a 3-point lead at half (23-20) were able to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Wahconah 21-5. Steinman scored 15 of her points in that quarter.

"They [Wahconah] were doing a great job in the first half of finding the open man," Pittsfield coach Joe Racicot said. "We made some adjustments, changed the defense at half-time, and things worked out pretty well."

Wahconah was in it in the first half with Pittsfield holding the lead after the first quarter 13-12.

But Pittsfield came out in the second half and put more pressure on the ball, switching from a zone defense to man.

"We wanted to put more pressure on the ball and we did that in a couple different areas and they weren't able to move the ball as quickly," Racicot said. "Plus we got a couple steals and things went our way."

Senior Lauren Carnevale finished with 15 points for Pittsfield, and Allie Hunt had six. For Wahconah, Ashley Zink had 10 and Lily Pudlo had 9.

Pittsfield hosts Auburn Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. and Wahconah hosts Hoosac Valley Monday evening at 7:30 p.m.
