Troy, NY - Whether your tastes lean toward classical, jazz, world or acoustic music, the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall has it all in the 2006-2007 season. Throughout its distinguished history, The Hall has hosted the world’s finest performers and this year is no exception. Once again, the Music Hall is proud to partner with WMHT to present the entire 2006-07 Classical Concert Series. * connotes Special Event. Here’s the season to date: RAVI SHANKAR* Saturday, September 30 at 8 PM - $67 and $58 Last season, the Hall hosted daughter Anoushka while father Ravi beamed from the audience. This season, the master sitarist himself takes the stage at The Hall for the very first time in his 70 year career. Dubbed the “Godfather of World Music” by the late George Harrison, Ravi Shankar is India's most esteemed cultural ambassador whose artistry cuts across all cultural and musical boundaries. CHRIS BOTTI* Saturday, October 14 at 8 PM - $45 Last season, trumpet virtuoso, composer and charismatic performer Chris Botti sold out the Hall with a breathtaking performance that proved he is a one-of-a-kind contemporary jazz musician with incredible chops. This season, Botti returns to the Hall for one evening only. Don’t miss what the LA Times has described as “[his] virtuosic trumpet work, his inventive melody-making, his engaging onstage presence and his powerful band.” JEFF DANIELS & CHRISTINE LAVIN* Saturday, October 21 at 8 PM - $32, $29 and $20 Actor Jeff Daniels admires her songwriting gift and ability to use humor to connect with an audience. Christine Lavin raves about his sparkling guitar playing, clever songs side-by-side with moving ballads. Join us for a laugh-filled evening of stories and songs by veteran actor Jeff Daniels (Pleasantville, Arachnophobia, Terms of Endearment,) and the original “Bitchin’ Babe,” Christine Lavin. MEASHA BRUEGGERGOSMAN, soprano Saturday, October 28 at 8 PM - $28, $25 and $20 “The touting of up-and-coming artists can sometimes leave you stuck on the ground floor with skyscraper expectations. When will the doors finally close and your ascent begin? ROCKAPELLA Sunday, November 5 at 7 PM - $29, $26 and $15 Long ago and far away in Providence, Rhode Island, a few young men began something which would build from a collegiate hobby into a national phenomenon. Often imitated, never duplicated, this certifiably unique pop musical group has taken the previously stodgy music genre of a cappella and brought it full-force into the 21st century. DAVE BRUBECK* Sunday, October 22 at 7 PM - $40 and $37 Still going strong after more than 50 years in the business, American jazz giant Dave Brubeck continues to create extraordinary music, reaching new heights with an unconventional style that’s nearly impossible to copy. His unique rhythms and style have won the hearts of millions of jazz aficionados and new listeners alike. DAVID GRISMAN QUINTET Saturday, November 18 at 8 PM - $29 and $26 Featuring David on mandolin, Jim Kerwin on bass, George Marsh on percussion, Enrique Coria on guitar and Matt Eakle on flute, the award-winning David Grisman Quintet has headlined at major jazz, folk and bluegrass festivals around the world. For more than 40 years, composer, bandleader, teacher and record producer David Grisman has been creating “dawg” music, a blend of swing, bluegrass, Latin, jazz and gypsy music that has spawned a whole new genre of acoustic string instrumental music. PUTUMAYO’S ACOUSTIC AFRICA Sunday, November 19 at 7 PM - $28, $25 and $15 Picture three of Africa’s best live performers on stage at The Hall and you have Acoustic Africa. Habib Koité, Vusi Mahlasela, and newcomer Dobet Gnahore compose and perform contemporary music inspired by their cultural roots and influenced by Africa’s challenging political and social issues. All social activists, the three singer/songwriters build awareness of the conditions in Africa that affect the region and the world through their beautiful melodies, rhythm and message. SISTER’S CHRISTMAS CATECHISM Saturday, December 2 at 8 PM - $31, $28 and $20 Sister’s back and she’s funnier than ever! From the creator and author of Late Nite Catechism comes Sister’s own Christmas story where she tackles the question: “Whatever happened to the Magi’s gold?” It’s CSI: BETHLEHEM when Sister invites her audience up on stage to be characters in a living nativity/crime scene! As always, it’s Sister who steals the show. Don’t miss the holiday hi-jinks! JUDY COLLINS* Friday, December 15 at 8 PM - $38, $35 and $25 A holiday tradition at The Hall, America’s beloved songstress returns with songs of the season and timeless gems about peace and protect from a career spanning four decades. Joining her for the special holiday concert is Albany Pro Musica. CANADIAN BRASS* Tuesday, December 19 at 8 PM - $32, $29 and $20 If you missed their last SOLD-OUT concert at The Hall, you owe it to yourself to experience the zany antics of this brass quintet as they return just in time for the holidays. A genuine crowd-pleaser, Canadian Brass continues to take daring leaps (in sneakers) from classical music into jazz, contemporary concert music and popular songs. It’s an evening of pure entertainment for the whole family. THE INTERGALACTIC NEMESIS Thursday, January 18 at 8 PM - $27, $24 and $15 A hilarious sci-fi radio theatre serial! The year is 1933. Creatures from another galaxy are on the verge of invading Earth and it’s up to the man from the future, Ben Wilcott, and intrepid reporter Molly Sloan to stop them. A cliff-hanging story and spectacular live sound effects by Foley artists make this live radio show style production from Salvage Vanguard Theater a blast for everyone from age 9 to 90. SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK* Friday, January 26 at 8 PM - $33, $30 and $25 For 30 years, this Grammy Award-winning female a cappella ensemble has demanded a just and humane world for all. They spread their message of love with music that affirms the hope and travails of life by interweaving rhythmic stories of their African ancestors with rich choral harmonies. NADJA SOLERNO-SONNENBERG & THE ASSADS Thursday, February 8 at 8 PM - $32 and $29 Hailed as “today’s preeminent guitar duo”, the Sergio and Odair Assad possess technical virtuosity, sensitivity and uncanny ensemble precision. Sonnenberg, called “one of the few classical artists who must be experienced in person,” is acclaimed for her musical depth, formidable technique and exciting stage presence. Together, their vivid and varied program features music from Argentina, Romania and Spain, and works by Bach, Piazzolla and Bartók. MARIA SCHNEIDER JAZZ ORCHESTRA* Friday, February 9 at 8 PM - $42 and $39 Jazz composer/conductor and 2005 Grammy-winner Maria Schneider garners comparisons to such luminaries as Ellington, Mingus and her mentor Gil Evans. FROM THE SAHARA TO SHANGRI LA: SACRED MUSIC OF THE SUFI & TIBET WITH HASSAN HAKMOUN&YUNGCHEN LHAMO Saturday, April 21 at 8 PM - $25 and $22 The son of a mystical healer, Hassan Hakmoun is a master of Moroccan Gnawa music. Drawing on Islamic mysticism and West African rhythms, Gnawa healing trance music is unlike any other music on the planet. Since fleeing Tibet on foot in 1989, Yungchen Lhamo has emerged as the leading Tibetan vocalist on the world stage. Called “beautifully evocative,” “spine-tingling” and “transcendent,” her a cappella performances take listeners on an emotive spiritual journey. PAT MARTINO Friday, April 27 at 8 PM - $28 and $25 Named “Guitar Player of the Year” by Downbeat Magazine’s 2004 Readers Poll, “Pat Martino stands alone in the guitar universe…he is a source and an inspiration” says Bela Fleck. Pat Martino’s latest project for Blue Note utilizes his intimate knowledge of Wes Montgomery’s music to demonstrate what it truly means to “get inside” another musician’s head and heart. Please note that all weekday and Saturday performances begin at 8 PM while Sunday performances begin at 7 PM. Tickets are now on sale to members only. BVNA Nurses Raise Funds for Berkshire Bounty

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Massachusetts Nursing Association members of the Berkshire Visiting Nurses Association raised $650 to help with food insecurity in Berkshire County.
 
The nurses and health-care professionals of BVNA have given back to the community every holiday season for the last three years. The first year, they adopted a large family, raised money, bought, wrapped and delivered the gifts for the family. Last year, they sold raffle tickets and the money raised went to the charitable cause of the winner. 
 
This year, with food insecurity as a rising issue, they chose to give to Berkshire Bounty in Great Barrington.
 
They sold raffle tickets for a drawing to win one of two items: A lottery ticket tree or a gift certificate tree, each worth $100. They will be giving the organization the donation this month.
 
Berkshire Bounty seeks to improve food security in the county through food donations from retailers and local farms; supplemental purchases of healthy foods; distribution to food sites and home deliveries; and collaborating with partners to address emergencies and improve the food system.
