Berkshire Rides Launches Informational Website

A local vanpool is showing how many ways there are to get around town, and how they can help the public navigate these options. BerkshireRides recently launched a website, www.berkshirerides.org which has a wealth of information on transportation options in the Berkshires. Originally developed as a device to help staff schedule trips, Jana Hunkler Brule’, Project Manager of BerkshireRides, said that the site has developed into a tool not only for her staff, but for residents and agencies throughout the county who face transportation barriers. “We have gathered information on all of the transportation offered from private taxis to the B-Bus, medical, senior, even pet transportation services. There is a lot out there that we all can make better use of.” BerkshireRides, a not-for-profit transportation service that has been in northern Berkshire County for 5 years, has helped over 5,000 residents commute to nearly 400 job sites. Their fleet of vans operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, transporting employees when and where the BRTA B-Bus is not in service. With support from the Northern Berkshire United Way and in collaboration with area schools and youth development programs, Brule’ was able to implement a transportation system for youth, a first for the area. Brule’ states, “You can get there from here!” To find out how, she urges all concerned to log on to www.berkshirerides.org or call BerkshireRides at 413-664-0300.

BVNA Nurses Raise Funds for Berkshire Bounty

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Massachusetts Nursing Association members of the Berkshire Visiting Nurses Association raised $650 to help with food insecurity in Berkshire County.

The nurses and health-care professionals of BVNA have given back to the community every holiday season for the last three years. The first year, they adopted a large family, raised money, bought, wrapped and delivered the gifts for the family. Last year, they sold raffle tickets and the money raised went to the charitable cause of the winner.

This year, with food insecurity as a rising issue, they chose to give to Berkshire Bounty in Great Barrington.

They sold raffle tickets for a drawing to win one of two items: A lottery ticket tree or a gift certificate tree, each worth $100. They will be giving the organization the donation this month.

Berkshire Bounty seeks to improve food security in the county through food donations from retailers and local farms; supplemental purchases of healthy foods; distribution to food sites and home deliveries; and collaborating with partners to address emergencies and improve the food system.
