SHINE Slates 'Health Benefits U'
PITTSFIELD — The Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders program at Elder Services of Berkshire County is sponsoring a "Health Benefits University" at its offices at 66 Wendell Ave. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 8.The program provides an overview of Medicare benefits and offers practical guidelines on navigating through the health-care system. Health and human services professionals as well as caregivers may benefit from this course, which will be taught by Margaret Johnson Ware, Elder Services regional SHINE director. Three social work continuing education credits will be available to qualified course participants.
Included in the course will be an overview of state health insurance counseling programs; a Medicare, including Part A and B, and supplemental plans; prescription drug options, including Medicare D and Prescription Advantage; and public benefit programs. New this year will be information on the new Medicare Advantage plans, which have recently become available in Berkshire County.
The program is appropriate for agency and medical personnel who are involved in assisting individuals with accessing community resources. In addition, caregivers responsible for health-related matters may find the material useful.
