Pittsfield Bicyclist Killed in Collision

CHESHIRE — A Pittsfield woman was killed late Thursday night on Route 8 after her bicycle was hit by a motor vehicle.

Valerie E. Senger, 49, of Pittsfield was riding a bicycle along Route 8 near Ingalls Road when she was struck by a 2005 Subaru Impreza driven by Karen Dettman, 59, of Cheshire, according to a preliminary investigation by state Trooper Michael J. Kleiner.

Dettman was northbound on Route 8 when the collision occurred at about 10 p.m. It was not clear from the police report which direction Senger was headed. It also did not state whether she had reflective lights or clothing.

Senger was fatally injured in the crash, according to state police; Dettman was not injured.


Both lanes of Route 8 were closed for approximately three hours and traffic was diverted around the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Cheshire, Lanesborough and Adams police departments, the Cheshire Fire Department and the Adams Ambulance Service and office of medical examiner assisted troopers at the scene.

Hoosac Valley Presents December Concert

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Hoosac Valley announced its annual December Concert, taking place on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hoosac Valley High School Auditorium. 
 
This annual event will showcase the musical talents of students across the district.
 
The evening will feature performances by:
  • Middle School Band, under the direction of Richard Boulger
  • High School Band, under the direction of Amanda Watroba
  • High School Jazz Band, also under the direction of Amanda Watroba
Admission to the concert is free, and all community members are invited to attend and support the district's young performers.
 
During the event, the winner of the annual fuel raffle will be chosen, adding an exciting moment to the night's festivities.
