Hoosac Valley Names Co-Valedictorians
CHESHIRE, Mass. — Carla Duval and Megan Bantle have been named as co-valedictorian's for Hoosac Valley High School's class of 2010.Both gave speeches Friday night during commencement exercises in the school gymnasium.
Bantle is the daughter of Carrie Garivaltis of Adams and Kevin Bantle of Tolland, Conn. During her high school career at Hoosac Valley, she was class president, a member and director of the LEO Club, student council representative and the newspaper editor of features/editorial.
She played on the varsity soccer team and was a captain during her senior year. She was also a member of the tennis team, participated in school musicals, joined the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and was a member of the Susan B. Anthony Chapter of the National Honor Society.
As a junior, Bantle was the recipient of the Williams College Book Award, the University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Award, the John & Abigail Adams Scholarship, and first place winner in the Junior Prize Speaking Contest.
Bantle will attend Williams College in the fall and will major in anthropology.
Duval is the daughter of Hoosac Valley Principal Henry and Kelly Duval of Cheshire. While at Hoosac, she was a member and vice-president of the Leo Club, debate team, chorus, a student council representative, co-editor-in-chief of the newspaper, participated in school musicals, represented Hoosac as the ambassador for the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Conference, and a member of the Susan B. Anthony Chapter of the National Honor Society.
As a junior, she was the recipient of the University of Rochester Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award and Scholarship in humanities and social sciences, the Smith College Book Award, and the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship.
Duval will attend Union College in the fall.
