Lenox Names Valedictorian, Salutatorian for 2011

Andrew Bravo James Zuber

LENOX, Mass. — Susan Strong, principal of Lenox Memorial Middle and High School, has announced that Andrew  Bravo, son of Albert and Janis Bravo of Lenox, and James Zuber, son of Anne and Robert, also from Lenox, have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively for the 2011 graduating class.

Both students will speak at graduation ceremonies on Sunday, June 12, at 1 p.m. at Tanglewood.
 
Bravo is an accomplished scholar-athlete. He has played on the varsity soccer team, varsity basketball team and the varsity baseball team, serving as captain for all three teams. He has been an All-Eagle Selection in each sport and has served as the school's senior MIAA Student Ambassador. In addition, he is president of the National Honor Society, has been in Peer Education since 10th grade and is a member of the Quidditch team. He was the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award and the Ciao Soccer Scholarship. 

Bravo plans to attend Williams College in the fall where he will be majoring in biochemistry.


Zuber is also a talented student and athlete. He was captain of the vrsity downhill ski racing team. Zuber finished as a top skier from the Tri-State area in Super Giant Slalom event at the Junior Olympics. He is a regional top 10 and state finalist USSA skier. He also played on the varsity soccer team as well as other premier and traveling teams. Zuber volunteered for a number of organizations including the school's Student Relief Club, Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield and the Youth Health Service Corp. He also participated on the school's Quiz and Quidditch teams, and Peer Education. He was a sixth-grade mentor, tutored in math and Latin, and wrote for the school newspaper. 

Zuber plans to attend Princeton University in the fall and is pursing a career in medicine.      

Both students are National Merit Finalists and members of the National Honor Society.

Marionette Shows At Ventfort Hall for Children

LENOX, Mass. — The puppeteer Carl Sprague will return to Ventfort Hall Gilded Age Mansion and Museum in Lenox with Rapunzel for two holiday vacation week marionette performances. 
 
The dates and times are Saturday, Dec. 27 and Monday, Dec. 29, both at 3:30 pm. The audiences will have the opportunity to meet Sprague after.
 
Sprague, who has appeared annually at Ventfort Hall with his "behind the scenery" mastery, has been a puppeteer since childhood.  He inherited a collection of 60 antique Czech marionettes, each about eight inches tall that were assembled by his great-grandfather, Julius Hybler.  Hybler's legacy also includes two marionette theaters. 
 
Also, Sprague has been a set designer for such motion pictures as "The Royal Tenenbaums" and Scorcese's "The Age of Innocence," as well as for theater productions including those of Shakespeare & Company. 
 
Admission to the show is $20 per person; $10 for children 4-17 and free for age 3 and under. Children must be accompanied by adults.  Ventfort Hall is decorated for the holidays. The historical mansion is located at 104 Walker Street in Lenox.
