WILIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Gustavus Adolphus men's ice hockey team held off Williams, 4-2, in the Ephs' Lansing Chapman Rink.

Gustavus (4-5-1) netted the first two goals of the game, before Williams (2-2) rallied to tie the contest with two goals in the third period. Gustavus re-grouped and got a game-winner from Tyler Lapic with just over five minutes to play and then benefitted from an empty netter in the final seconds to register the win.

Over the first eight minutes the Gusties carried the play to the Ephs.

Peter Mistretta sent Eric Rubino in on goal but Gustie goalie Patrick Sullivan kicked Rubino's attempt wide at the last moment.

Just over 11 minutes in Zach May tested Ephs' goaltender Sean Dougherty, who was up to the task with a save that found him sliding to his right to get a pad on the shot.

Gustavus was not to be denied, however, and they netted the first goal of the game at 11:30 when Ryan Johnson slid the puck under the pads of Dougherty. Credited with assists on the Johnson goal were Darren Lapic and Alex Gallen.

Gustavus out shot the Ephs in the first 20 minutes of play by one, 11-10.

At 6:40 in the second, Dane Erickson won the puck for Gustavus on a forecheck along the half boards on Dougherty's left. Erickson then hit Andy Pearson in front with a quick hard pass that Pearson was able to re-direct past Dougherty to put the Gusties up 2-0.

Shots in the second period favored Gustavus 11-9 and giving the Gusties a 22-19 advantage over the first two periods.

The Ephs sliced the Gustavus lead in half early in the third period when Evan Dugdale scored from in front when Mark Lyons and Cody Skinner worked the puck out of the corner.

At 8:55 in, Nick Anderson carried the puck over the blueline out to the right of Sullivan and was advancing with Rubino. Anderson showed great patience and waited to lead Rubino with a pass. Rubino roofed the puck into the upper left side of the goal to tie the contest.

With 5:19 remaining in the period Tyler Lapic re-directed a shot from the blueline by Gallen who was set up by Ryan Johnson past Dougherty to give Gustavus a 3-2 lead. An empty netter made it 4-2.

Shots on the night favored Gustavus 30-29. Dougherty made 27 saves, while Sullivan made 27 in collecting the win.

Companion Corner: Lucy at Second Chance Animal Shelter

By Breanna SteeleiBerkshires Staff

ARLINGTON, Vt. — There is an excited and energetic pup looking for her new family.

iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.

Lucy is an 18-month-old heeler/terrier mix with energy to spare. She has been at the Second Chance Animal Shelter for about a month.

Lead canine care technician Alaura Lasher introduced us to her.

"She is a very energetic girl. She loves to play, and as you can see, she came to us from animal control," she said.

Lucy was not in a great situation before coming to the shelter and they are still trying to learn more about her.

"They had seized her from a pretty neglectful situation. She was actually technically abandoned. She just came to us this last month, so she's still showing us all of her energy she has," Lasher said.

Lucy is able to go home with a dog-savvy cat and older children as she can be a bit jumpy with her bounds of energy.

"The perfect home for her is one that is able to give her a ton of attention and a ton of time playing, she loves her time outside," said Lasher. "She can run forever and not get tired. She can possibly live with another dog who is used to more of a pushy play style. She can be a little pushy when she plays, just because she's so hyper."

Since she is young, she is still learning and training with the staff and might need more with someone who takes her home.

"To the best of our knowledge, she's just a healthy young girl, because she's only a year and a half old, she still got a little bit of learning and training that she could use."

But Lucy is always happy to see anyone and immediately wants to play and say hi. Her endless energy makes her a great companion to play outside with and then hang out after a long day of fun.

"She's just a super sweet girl again. She'll need some help with the training, but as long as you've got time to burn out her energy, she'll make a great family dog," she said.

If you think Lucy might be the girl for you, reach out to Second Chance Animal Shelter and learn more about her on their website.
