PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Greylock Federal Credit Union awarded the Pittsfield Family YMCA with a $7,500 grant to support its youth programs and Camp Sumner's weekly field trips, as well as the Flat Stanley summer literacy program.

"We're happy to bring Flat Stanley into the lives of our youth members," said Marilyn L. Sperling, president of Greylock Federal Credit Union. "This summer's reading adventure, combined with the opportunity to sample the YMCA's youth sports programs, swimming lessons and day camp, provide a very valuable benefit to our young members."

Greylock Youth Club members can receive 10 percent off an annual YMCA membership for those up to 13 years of age and one free youth program. Applicable youth programs are those valued up to $50 and include swim lessons, fall soccer, basketball, gymnastics, dance, martial arts and other eligible programs. Greylock Youth Club members are also entitled to a 25 percent discount for each week registered at Camp Sumner, located at Berkshire Community College. A YMCA annual youth membership is required.

"Greylock's generosity for the third year helps us develop the youth programs in our communities by providing opportunities where children can build up their self-confidence, self-esteem and self-expression," said Randy Kinnas, CEO and Executive Director of the Pittsfield Family YMCA. "The interactive reading activity and our youth programs are two examples of how we fulfill our mission."

The Flat Stanley reading program will be held at the YMCA's Camp Sumner. Campers will be given a Flat Stanley journal to chronicle their adventures as they visit various places in the Berkshires. The journal has space for photographs, postcards, maps or drawings of Stanley's explorations. For more information about the literacy activity, contact Randy Kinnas at 413-499-7650, ext. 12.

For members to receive a free program, reduced-rate youth membership or summer camp experience, they can pick up their free ticket at any Greylock Federal Credit Union branch and bring it to the Pittsfield Family YMCA. Tickets are valid through December 2013.

Possible Measles Exposure at Boston, Logan

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed Wednesday that an out-of-state adult visitor who spent time in Boston and Westborough earlier this month was diagnosed with measles and was present in a number of locations.

This could have resulted in other people being exposed to measles virus.

The visitor arrived at Logan International Airport on American Airlines flight 2384 from Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, on Dec. 11 at 2:39 p.m. They stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Boston-Westborough in Westborough and departed the state on Dec. 12 via Logan at 9:19 p.m. on JetBlue flight 117 to Las Vegas.

DPH is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local partners to identify and notify those who may have been exposed to measles from this individual.

"Measles is a highly contagious, airborne disease, which has increased significantly in the United States because of the unfortunate decrease in vaccination rates. It is also a preventable disease," said Public Health Commissioner Dr. Robbie Goldstein. "This current situation serves as an important reminder of the critical role vaccination plays in protecting our communities. While Massachusetts has not had a measles case this year, 2025 saw the highest number of nationwide cases in more than a decade — nearly 2,000 in 44 jurisdictions, and sadly, three deaths.

"Fifteen years ago, measles had been considered eliminated in the United States, but that tremendous progress is at risk. Vaccines are one of the most important public health interventions ever — they are safe, effective, and lifesaving."

Measles is very contagious. However, the risk to most people in Massachusetts is low because the vaccination rate in the state is high. People who are not immune and visited any of the locations on the following dates and times may be at risk for developing measles.
