GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Christie's International Real Estate, the world’s leading luxury real estate network and a subsidiary of Christie’s auction house, has awarded Affiliate status to Great Barrington-based Barnbrook Realty, one of the region’s preeminent boutique brokerages of luxury and commercial real estate.

With its origins dating back to 1976, Barnbrook Realty operates out of the southern part of the Berkshire mountain range – an area known as a hub and feeder market to the vibrant and affluent Berkshire region.

Barnbrook’s name was inspired by its first location: A small barn along a babbling brook on Route 7. Today, located in the middle of Great Barrington’s Main Street and lead by owner, licensed broker and real estate appraiser Mary White, in tandem with her daughter, Maureen White -- one of the top-selling residential real estate brokers in Berkshire County – the family-owned Barnbrook Realty team is composed of some of the most innovative and seasoned brokers in Berkshire who cater to the area’s most discriminating clientele.

“It is an honor to award Barnbrook Realty with Affiliate status,” said Kathleen Coumou, senior vice president, Northeast Region Manager of Christie’s International Real Estate.  “The firm’s indisputable reputation within the marketplace and overwhelming success has made it an industry standout and a welcomed addition to our global network.”

Boasting a foothold in the local flagship community, Barnbrook Realty is a favored resource for buyers and sellers of luxury real estate as well as those interested in investment and commercial opportunities. By joining the Christie’s International Real Estate network, the company will exclusively represent the CIRE brand in the Berkshire region.

Wholly owned by Christie's, the world's leading art business, Christie's International Real Estate is represented in 45 countries. Barnbrook Realty joins this carefully selected organization of brokerages, all of which boast proven records of success in both high-end property sales and exemplary client service.

“We at Barnbrook Realty are extremely proud and honored to be affiliated with the distinctive brand of Christies International Real Estate,” said Maureen White, owner and broker of Barnbrook Realty, who, along with her mother, Mary R. White, principal broker, offers almost 50 years of Berkshire real estate experience. “The esteemed affiliation gives us the ability to offer our clients and their properties an unparalleled scope of international exposure under the distinctive ‘Christie’s’ brand through highly targeted global marketing programs and services.”

Dalton Board Signs Off on Land Sale Over Residents' Objections

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff

Residents demanded the right to speak but the agenda did not include public comment. Amy Musante holds a sign saying the town now as '$20,000 less for a police station.'
DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board signed the sale on the last of what had been known as the Bardin property Monday even as a handful of residents demanded the right to speak against the action.

The quitclaim deed transfers the nine acres to Thomas and Esther Balardini, who purchased the two other parcels in Dalton. They were the third-highest bidders at $31,500. Despite this, the board awarded them the land in an effort to keep the property intact.

"It's going to be an ongoing battle but one I think that has to be fought [because of] the disregard for the taxpayers," said Dicken Crane, the high bidder at $51,510.

"If it was personal I would let it go, but this affects everyone and backing down is not in my nature."

Crane had appealed to the board to accept his bid during two previous meetings. He and others opposed to accepting the lower bid say it cost the town $20,000. After the meeting, Crane said he will be filing a lawsuit and has a citizen's petition for the next town meeting with over 100 signatures.

Three members of the board — Chair Robert Bishop Jr., John Boyle, and Marc Strout — attended the 10-minute meeting. Members Anthony Pagliarulo and Daniel Esko previously expressed their disapproval of the sale to the Balardinis.

Pagliarulo voted against the sale but did sign the purchase-and-sale agreement earlier this month. His reasoning was the explanation by the town attorney during an executive session that, unlike procurement, where the board is required to accept the lowest bid for services, it does have some discretion when it comes to accepting bids in this instance.
