Battalion Blasts Danbury

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Brandon Contratto had two goals and three assists to lead the Berkshire Battalion to a 7-2 win over Danbury on Friday night at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink.
 
Berkshire took control of the game with a 4-1 second period that gave it a commanding 6-1 lead going into the third.
 
Vadim Guskov had a goal and three assists for Berkshire, which got two goals each from Michael Kaselouskas and Vladyslav Gavrik.
 
Louie George made 33 saves to earn the win between the pipes. Stephen Messina appeared in his third game of the season in relieve and made three saves.
 
Berkshire (13-19) is nine points out of fourth place in the six-team Federal Hockey League heading into Saturday's game at Watertown.
 
The Battlion comes home on Sunday to host Danville at 4 p.m.

North Adams Double Murder Case Continued to March

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The case of a city man charged with killing his parents was continued to March on Monday.
 
Darius Hazard, 44, was scheduled for a detention hearing on Monday in Northern Berkshire District Court.
 
Prior to the start of the court's business, the clerk announced that Hazard's case was continued to Monday, March 2.
 
Hazard is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of arson in connection with the Nov. 24 fire that claimed the lives of Donald Hazard, 83, and Venture Hazard, 76.
 
Police say Hazard confessed to the killings and starting the fire and fled the Francis Street home where he lived with his parents.
