SteepleCats Stay Alive With 3-1 Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Parker Perez went 3-for-four with a triple to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to a 3-1 win over Vermont on Friday night in Game 2 of the New England Collegiate Baseball League Northern Division Championship Series.
Perez got his triple and scored a run in a two-run fifth that gave the 'Cats a 2-0 lead.
After Vermont got one run back in the top of the eighth, Robert Calabrese walked, moved up on Jim Haley's bunt and scored on a wild pitch to re-establish the two-run lead in the bottom of the frame.
In the top of the ninth, two walks and a single loaded the bases with one out before reliever Jared Habershaw got two swinging strikeouts to end the game.
Starter Dakota Edwards got the win with 7-1/3 innings of one-run ball, scattering eight hits. Hoosac Valley graduate Tanner Bird stopped the damage in the eighth, leaving two men on base after coming in to spell Edwards.
North Adams travels to Vermont on Saturday for the deciding game of the best-of-three series.
