Southwestern Vermont Health Care Announces Three New Members to its Board of Trustees

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Southwestern Vermont Health Care has announced the appointments of three new members to its Board of Trustees.

"These individuals have unique skills and experiences and will make tremendous contributions to our Board of Trustees," said Tommy Harmon, the board chair. "I am delighted to welcome them and eager to see what we can accomplish together."

Wayne Granquist is graduate of Tufts University and Harvard Law School. His career in government included posts as chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Abraham Ribicoff (1964-1969) and as associate director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget in the Carter White House (1977-1981). His business experience includes positions as a vice president of the Connecticut Bank and Trust Company, president of the Fairfield County National Bank of Connecticut, co‐owner and president of the Stratton Mountain Resort in Vermont, and partner and managing director at Manchester Capital Management, from which he retired in 1996.

Granquist is currently a consultant to nonprofit organizations on strategic planning, governance, and management‐board relations, and was named by the governor to chair the Southern Vermont Economic Development Zone Committee in 2015. Granquist serves on the boards of Vermont Public Radio and the Weston Playhouse Theatre Company and was a trustee of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center from 2000-2012. He and his wife Deborah live in Weston, Vt., where he is town moderator.

Connie A. Jastremski has nearly five decades of nursing experience. She received her diploma from Presbyterian-University Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh in 1969, her bachelor's in nursing from University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1980, her master's in nursing from University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies in 1982, and a post-master's certificate for Adult Nurse Practitioner from the College of Nursing, SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, N.Y., in 1998. Her special certifications include those in neurosurgical nursing, nursing administration, and hospice and palliative care. In addition, she holds a master's in Business Administration from Syracuse University.



From 2003 until 2014, Jastremski worked in various nursing administration positions, including as the chief nursing officer and vice president for Patient Care Services, for Bassett Healthcare Network, Cooperstown, N.Y. During her last year at Bassett she also worked as a nurse practitioner on the Pain and Palliative Care Service until her retirement in 2015. She has worked as a consultant and in academic teaching positions within the State University of New York system, including SUNY IT, College of Nursing in Utica and the SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse, College of Nursing. She has published nearly 100 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and has served on the editorial boards of journals including Critical Care Medicine, the Journal of Trauma Nursing, Prehospital and Disaster Medicine, and others.

Angeline Marano is a senior level healthcare executive with extensive experience in hospital operations and leadership in for-profit as well as not-for-profit healthcare delivery systems. She began her career as a hospital executive with Humana in South Florida, Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, and University Hospitals of Cleveland, a major academic institution and primary teaching affiliate for Case Western Reserve University. She later served as the chief operating officer of University of Vermont Medical Center and returned to South Florida as the COO for the Memorial Healthcare System, one of the largest public healthcare systems in the United States. During her tenure, this system was honored as the American Hospital Association-McKesson Quest for Quality Award winner.

Marano works for Williams College as the Director of Health Services and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. She is active in her local community as a volunteer on the board of the Second Chance Animal Center and Village Ambulance Service. Nationally, she has focused her time on improving the health status of infants and children as a member of the First Candle Board of Directors and March of Dimes.

Coggins Auto Group Celebrates Five Years

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The family-owned Coggins Auto Group is celebrating five years of operations: Coggins Toyota of Bennington and Coggins Honda of Bennington, and Coggins of the Berkshires in nearby Massachusetts.
 
Mike Coggins purchased three dealerships — Honda, Toyota and Ford — in 2020 with a goal to restore trust and a "true sense of community-minded dealership culture." 
 
"My primary focus from day one was bringing back that connection to the region," Coggins had said back in 2021. "This area values real relationships. They want to know the people they're doing business with. We set out to rebuild that trust."
 
The Ford dealership was sold off in 2023 and Coggins of the Berkshires, with sales and services for used cars, opened the same year in Pittsfield, Mass. 
 
According to Coggins Auto Group, the dealerships had social media ratings of two stars when they were purchased; now all Coggins locations are garnering more than four stars in customer satisfaction reviews. 
 
"We sell cars, and we fix cars, and our goal is just to make our customers happy, and keep our employees happy, and that's what's made this really work these last few years," said General Manager Scott O'Connell.
 
Coggins Auto Group is also involved in events that benefit the community, including its popular annual charity golf tournament that funds local charities and organizations such as the Bennington Little League.
