PITTSFIELD, Mass. — You thought your family was weird? The Miss Hall's School Theater Ensemble presents its take on oddball households, performing the musical comedy "The Addams Family" in shows at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, and Saturday, Feb. 25, and in a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Feb. 26.

Gomez and Morticia Addams have tried to raise their children right — by Addams family standards. Then Wednesday Addams invites her new boyfriend, Lucas Beineke, and his parents to dinner. Intent on enjoying a simple family dinner, Wednesday and Lucas instruct their families to "act normal," which proves easier said than done. As the dinner unravels, a terrible storm traps both families in the Addams home for the night and sees all emerge with a new definition of "normal."

The performances will take place in the Woods Theater of the Elizabeth Gatchell Klein Arts Center on the Miss Hall's School campus. General admission is $6, and reservations are recommended. Senior citizen and handicapped-accessible seating is available. Call 413-443-6401 for tickets and reservations or order tickets on the MHS website.

This MHS production stars sophomore Ainsley Schuth as family patriarch Gomez Addams; senior Josie Dorsey as his wife, Morticia Addams; junior Olivia Kinne of Pittsfield as Wednesday Addams; and freshwoman Olivia Finston-Fox of Monterey as Lucas Beineke.

Performers also include junior Michela Laurin of Pittsfield as Uncle Fester; freshwoman Kate Nguyen as Wednesday’s brother, Pugsley; junior Jayme McGuigan of Pittsfield as Grandma; and freshwoman Riagain Wiley as Lurch, the Addams family's butler. Senior Christina Zhang and senior Maya Finston-Fox of Monterey play Lucas’s parents, Mal and Alice Beineke.

Performing as the Addams Family's ancestors are senior Tiffany Harris; juniors Vyn Balkandzhieva, Tiffany Luu and Queen Tran; sophomore Ingrid O'Dell; and freshwoman Emma Kotelnicki of Dalton. Additional ancestors and featured dancers include seniors Jackie Rich of North Adams, Cissie Jiang, Siwon Kim and Meigue Mollaioli; juniors Mei Craig of Williamstown and Julie Xu; sophomores Trudy Fadding of Glendale, Alkim Cetinkaya, Ivy Wang and Catherine Zhang; and freshwomen Charlotte Smith of New Marlborough, Erica Morales-Armstrong, Ayla Wallace, Candy Yu and Yasmine Wang.

The show's technical crew includes sophomore Rose Battista as stage manager; senior Sylvia Turner and sophomore Gaea Cortes as assistant stage managers; and freshwoman Soleil Laurin of Pittsfield and seniors Mindy Ma and Janet Zhao as costumes/props assistants. Jennifer Jordan, director of Theater and Dance at Miss Hall’s School directs the show, with choreography by dance teacher Kristine Waterman.

Dalton Board Signs Off on Land Sale Over Residents' Objections

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff

Residents demanded the right to speak but the agenda did not include public comment. Amy Musante holds a sign saying the town now as '$20,000 less for a police station.'
DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board signed the sale on the last of what had been known as the Bardin property Monday even as a handful of residents demanded the right to speak against the action.

The quitclaim deed transfers the nine acres to Thomas and Esther Balardini, who purchased the two other parcels in Dalton. They were the third-highest bidders at $31,500. Despite this, the board awarded them the land in an effort to keep the property intact.

"It's going to be an ongoing battle but one I think that has to be fought [because of] the disregard for the taxpayers," said Dicken Crane, the high bidder at $51,510.

"If it was personal I would let it go, but this affects everyone and backing down is not in my nature."

Crane had appealed to the board to accept his bid during two previous meetings. He and others opposed to accepting the lower bid say it cost the town $20,000. After the meeting, Crane said he will be filing a lawsuit and has a citizen's petition for the next town meeting with over 100 signatures.

Three members of the board — Chair Robert Bishop Jr., John Boyle, and Marc Strout — attended the 10-minute meeting. Members Anthony Pagliarulo and Daniel Esko previously expressed their disapproval of the sale to the Balardinis.

Pagliarulo voted against the sale but did sign the purchase-and-sale agreement earlier this month. His reasoning was the explanation by the town attorney during an executive session that, unlike procurement, where the board is required to accept the lowest bid for services, it does have some discretion when it comes to accepting bids in this instance.
