SVMC OB/GYN Service Now Available at Pownal Campus

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Women in Pownal, Vt., and nearby Berkshire County can now schedule gynecologic and prenatal appointments closer to home. Gynecologist Dr. Malcolm Paine has begun seeing patients at SVMC’s Pownal Campus in Pownal, Vt.

"Regular visits are so important for women of all ages, especially moms-to-be and their babies. This change allows women who live south of Bennington to travel a lot less to make their appointments," Paine said.

Dr. Paine offers all of the same services at the Pownal Campus that he currently offers at his office in Bennington, including screenings, prevention, treatment, and prenatal care.

Dr. Robert Tarnas, one of three primary care doctors at Pownal Campus, appreciates the opportunity to expand the services the practice provides.

"We see women and children for their routine visits. Having Dr. Paine provide additional gynecologic and obstetrics services makes those appointments more accessible for patients in our community," Tarnas said. "This convenience makes it easier for patients to get the care that is recommended for them, and that is always a good thing."

In addition to Dr. Tarnas, Dr. Barbara Raskin and Dr. Michael Welther see patients at SVMC Pownal Campus. The practice opened in October 2015 and is located less than one mile north of the Vermont-Massachusetts border. It includes 5,000 square feet, 10 exam rooms, X-ray, and lab testing.

In addition, the space offers many features designed for patient comfort, including a covered drop-off entrance, a comfortable waiting area, and an architectural design that allows for natural light. Coggins Auto Group Celebrates Five Years

By Breanna SteeleiBerkshires Staff
BENNINGTON, Vt. — The family-owned Coggins Auto Group is celebrating five years of operations: Coggins Toyota of Bennington and Coggins Honda of Bennington, and Coggins of the Berkshires in nearby Massachusetts.

Mike Coggins purchased three dealerships — Honda, Toyota and Ford — in 2020 with a goal to restore trust and a "true sense of community-minded dealership culture."

"My primary focus from day one was bringing back that connection to the region," Coggins had said back in 2021. "This area values real relationships. They want to know the people they're doing business with. We set out to rebuild that trust."

The Ford dealership was sold off in 2023 and Coggins of the Berkshires, with sales and services for used cars, opened the same year in Pittsfield, Mass.

According to Coggins Auto Group, the dealerships had social media ratings of two stars when they were purchased; now all Coggins locations are garnering more than four stars in customer satisfaction reviews.

"We sell cars, and we fix cars, and our goal is just to make our customers happy, and keep our employees happy, and that's what's made this really work these last few years," said General Manager Scott O'Connell.

Coggins Auto Group is also involved in events that benefit the community, including its popular annual charity golf tournament that funds local charities and organizations such as the Bennington Little League.
