Greylock Insurance Agency Acquires Butler Agency in Westfield

WESTFIELD, Mass. — Greylock Insurance Agency (GIA), based in Pittsfield, has purchased Roger Butler Insurance Agency (RBI).

The principals of RBI, Roger Butler, Jr. and Clarissa Butler-Simone have agreed to stay on for a while to ensure a smooth transition for customers and employees. Roger and Clarissa are the fourth generation of their family to run the agency. As they began looking towards the next step, they met with many potential suitors before agreeing that Greylock was the best choice.

"I am so grateful for the customer and community relationships we have formed over the years together," said Butler. "I wanted to make sure that the personal service and commitment to excellence Butler Insurance is known for continues without interruption. That’s one of the main reasons we have partnered with Greylock."

Although RBI will officially become part of GIA, they will continue to operate separately until later in 2021. GIA will locate its 30 Court Street office into the larger, more centrally located 5 Court St. office on the town green that RBI currently occupies.

"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome the employees and customers of RBI to Greylock," said Greylock Vice President, Lori Goodell. "The more we spoke with Roger and Clarissa about this merger, the more excited we became. Our shared culture, our approach to our work, even our carriers are a great fit."

Dalton Planning Board OKs Gravel Company Permit

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
DALTON, Mass. — The Planning Board approved the renewal of Nichols Sand and Gravel's special permit for earth removal.

The company, located at 190 Cleveland Road, operates a gravel pit there.

The hours of operation will remain 7 to 4 p.m. The commission approved owner Paul Nichols' request to allow trucks to depart the property in either direction.

Nichols has to apply for renewal of the special permit every year. The previous permit required the truck to exit the property to the right.

It makes more sense to go left if truck drivers have to go to the Pittsfield area, Nichols said. He has talked to the residents in the area and they are agreeable to the change.

Former residents requested this stipulation nearly 16 years ago to reduce the number of trucks using the residential street to avoid disturbing the quality of life and neighborhood.

There weren't any residents present during the meeting who expressed concerns regarding this change.
