H.D. Reynolds Tailors Service To Each Customer

CHESHIRE, Mass. — "Anybody can sell a lawnmower or snow thrower," said George Reynolds of H.D. Reynolds. "But we take the time to listen to the customer and explore his needs and fit him with the right product. We don't try to oversell or undersell a customer."

This attitude towards customer service has served George Reynolds well in his 50-plus years at the helm of the company his grandfather, Harold, began in 1937. While George sold the business to Eric Whitney, owner of Whitney Farms, he still works at the store and provides customer service to anyone who walks in the door.

H.D. Reynolds was originally located at 52 Church Street in Cheshire, but moved to its new location at 37 Nobodys Road on March 15 of this year. It is in the building formerly owned by Berkshire Building and Grounds, just down the road from the Ashuwilticook Rail Trail and across Route 8 from Whitney's Farm.

H.D. Reynolds sells different types of equipment that can be used to maintain your property, including lawnmowers, snow throwers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, and the like. The store also sells some used equipment when it comes in, and does repairs in-house.

George said the sales tax holiday is almost always the biggest weekend for sales of H.D. Reynolds equipment. George and his team expects that to be the case this year, as well. Customers can stop by the store on Aug. 14 to get the 6.25 percent discount that automatically applies to all purchases during the sales tax holiday.

Some top-selling brands for the company include Arien's and Simplicity snow throwers, as well as Echo, Shindaiwa, and Makita gas- and electric-powered equipment. This latter category includes chainsaws, leaf blowers, generators, and pressure washers, among other things. Plus, the store sells tools for gardening and even for arborists.

"We take service very seriously here," said George. Therefore, customers can expect to be greeted with a smile by George or another sales associate and to be guided through the store by a knowledgeable salesman.

"We try to find out what [customers'] needs are, explore the job they're gonna do, and steer them to the right one for the job," George said.

That was his father's sales philosophy, and it is how he distinguishes H.D. Reynolds from large department stores.

In other words, H.D. Reynolds will not try to sell you the most expensive snow thrower or the cheapest chainsaw. Rather, they will listen to your concerns, find out which price point is right for you, and direct you towards the right piece of equipment.

They will also deliver the equipment and will pick it up for repairs when needed. H.D. Reynolds services all warranteed products that they sell.

H.D. Reynolds is open Monday through Friday, 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., and Saturdays from 8 A.M. to 3 P.M. They are closed on Sundays, so make sure to mark Saturday, August 14, to purchase your equipment with no sales tax. The sales tax will be waived on any single item below $2,500, but customers can still get the discount if their total bill exceeds that number.
