North Adams City Clerk, Assistant Appointed
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council voted at a special meeting to appoint Marcus Lyon as the new city clerk and Joshua Tassone as the assistant city clerk.
"I want to congratulate incoming City Clerk Marcus Lyon and also congratulate Mr. Tassone on his appointment," City Council president Lisa Blackmer said Wednesday during the 8-minute meeting.
The City Council promoted Lyon, who currently holds the assistant position, with an 8-0 vote. Councilor Keith Bona could not attend the meeting.
Councilors Marie Harpin and Jennifer Barbeau voted for the appointment but made it known that they had problems with the appointment process.
Lyon will replace Cathleen King whose last day is Feb. 18.
"Congratulations to Clerk King on her next endeavor," Blackmer said. "You will be missed, and I am glad that you and Marcus worked a lot together. Some of the changes that you made will make things a little easier in the clerk's office."
Lyon was deemed the most qualified out of three candidates for the post and appointed by the City Council; as clerk, he was charged with hiring the assistant clerk.
Lyon's appointment is until Jan. 28, 2025.
